Abstract
During the life of the fixed target program at
Fermilab, the charged particle beams in the experimental
areas were designed and simulated by computer programs
based on matrix techniques. Design of the planned
muon collider/muon factory facility is now done with
special purpose computer programs based on ray tracing.
The inadequacies in the previously used programs
TRANSPORT and TURTLE consist of the treatment of
fringing fields for solenoids, and the interaction
of muons with bulk matter. In this paper we deal
with the first of these problems. Expressions are
derived for the magnetic field resulting from different
conductor configurations. Solutions, using well-known
techniques for these equations of motion, are described.
