Abstract:
The DPGeant simulation of the correlator section, responsible for inducing the
correlation between transverse amplitude and momentum in the context of the
Alternate Solenoid cooler is described. It is shown that the scheme based on
``buttons" does not work well enough, because it is not possible (or very
difficult, at best) to shape these absorbers so that the energy loss is
independent of the particle position in the $x, x'$ (or $y, y'$), at a given
transverse amplitude. Therefore, these correlators induce an unacceptable
growth of the longitudinal emittance, such that the combined 22 m. channels
correlators - transverse cooler is less performant than a simple scraper.
These results are preliminary and suggestions are welcome...
