Abstract:
Ionization cooling is the best-known cooling mechanism that may
reduce the muon beam emittance, before most of the muons decay, to
a useful level for the envisioned muon colliders and neutrino
factories. We review progress in understanding the linear beam
dynamics of both transverse and longitudinal cooling.
