Abstract:
Following a brief summary of muon-cooling theory, we present results of
design studies of the 15T alternating-solenoid cooling channel. These
include the mechanical layout, the design of the liquid-hydrogen
absorber, and DPGeant simulation results characterizing cooling
performance as a function of hydrogen-vessel window thickness and for
closed- and open-cell RF. We include a heat-exchanger analysis of the
hydrogen vessel. (Minor typographical corrections have been made to
the version previously posted.)
