Abstract:
Quadrupole fringe fields can limit the dynamic
aperture of muon storage rings. Using the computer
code COSY INFINITY for particle tracking and normal-form
analysis, we evaluate the importance of the fringe
fields, and identify regions in the rings where
they are critical. Dynamic aperture and linear
tune shifts with amplitude are calculated,
considering ideal machines without any errors or
misalignments. We also study the efficiency
of various nonlinear correction schemes,
and we evaluate the spin decoherence over
the transverse phase space. Results are presented
for two muon storage ring optics, developed at
FNAL and at CERN.
