This report discusses issues that are related to
recirculating linear accelerators RLA for a neutrino factory, and in
particular (i) the choice of the super-conducting RF system and the
lattice of the linacs, (ii) alternatives for the arc lattices,
achromats, and FODO cells, (iii) choices for the lengths of
the arc cells, either scaling them in proportion to the square root of
the muon energy in order to make their aperture rather
energy-independent, or using the length of the lowest-energy arc cells
for all arcs, and (iv) the bunch area and bunch shape distortion that
arise from acceleration on the crest of the RF wave form in an RLA
that uses isochronous arcs. All results, and in particular the
analytical ones, can be applied to any RLA. The numerical examples
apply to an RLA that accelerates muons from 2 to 20~GeV in four
passes, and uses super-conducting RF cavities similar to those of SNS,
operating at 805~MHz.
