The following study attempts to quantify a few tunable and easily understood
parameters that determine the design and performance of the pion capture and
decay channel in current US neutrino factory schemes. This study considers a
variety of designs with various design parameters that describe the field
strength profile in the channel and computes the muon yield at the end of the
decay channel for each design using MARS. It is found that muon yields of as
large as $Y_{\mu} = 0.53$ $\mu/P$ are achievable with a carbon target. Crude
cost considerations are made for the different designs, as well.
