A baseline model of the pre-cooling stages was simulated for the neutrino
factory as a first path to generate an input data file for the study of the
subsequent ionization cooling channel by using a ray-tracing simulation code
icool from the target to the end of the cooling channel. A solenoid magnet
for pion capture and a long solenoid magnet for muon transport covers the
following channel which consists of a phase rotation section with 60, 30,
and 45 MHz RF cells, a liquid H2 mini-cooling section, a drift region, an
induction linac section for phase rotation adjustment, another liquid H2
mini-cooling section, and a bunching section with 175 MHz RF cells.

The ratio of muons which reach to the end of the bunching section to the
16 GeV primary protons of 0.14 was obtained with muon kinetic energy less
than 100 MeV and a muon bunch length cut.
